  1. My desktop calendar for Monday , April 28, 2014 has a photo of large fishery cabins on a pier. Behind is sheer, high mountain. I went to Google to learn more about this unique place. The calendar is labeled, 1000 places to visit before you die. Hope you get to go to the Lofoten Islands. Earl Fuller, Sardis Lake, Mississippi, USA.

    • When I was a boy, my Norwegian Great Uncle Lorenz used to send us a calendar from Norway every year. I remember looking at the photos time and time again. On seeing The Lofotens, I promised myself I would definitely travel to the very north of Norway to see them, along with Hammerfest, where my grandfather was born, and where some of my relations still live. This blog is partly dedicated to that journey, as well as the final draft of the novel that was born from some of my experiences.

If you haven’t done so already, you might like to read The best hostel in the world. It’s in three parts, and the hostel is well worth a visit when you finally get to the Lofotens, which you must.
